PROTECTIVE ENCLOSURES

DROP SPINE BOX
Application: Handsome double tray book box made from board and cloth, tailored to fit the needs of valuable items. Offers maximum protection from abrasion, handling, and environmental conditions.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials. Materials listed below are considered suitable for archival storage. Substitutions can be made for decorative or functional preferences.
Materials used:
Board: Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Lining: Permanent quality fabric or paper.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).


ECONOMY DROP SPINE BOX
Application: Cloth hardcover box with sides made from abrasion resistant board. Offers the same easy-to-use protection as the Drop Spine Box at a practical price.
Special considerations:
Not intended for circulating materials. Not suitable for large or heavy volumes.
Materials used:
Cover board: Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Box board: 8.5 pH, with a 2% alkaline buffer, alpha-cellulose fiber pulp. Lignin free.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).


CHEMISE AND SLIPCASE
Application: Specially designed to restrain vellum bindings that have become distorted and no longer close or shelve safely. Offers maximum protection from abrasion, handling and environmental conditions.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials. Slip cases alone are not considered suitable for archival storage due to exposure of spine to light and environment.
Materials used:
Board (Slipcase): Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Board (Chemise): Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Lining: Permanent quality fabric or paper.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).

MANUSCRIPT / PAMPHLET CASE / PORTFOLIO
Application: Cloth-covered hard case with an internal pocket. Rigid folder provides maximum protection for soft cover pamphlet storage.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials.
Materials used:
Board: Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Cloth & pocket: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).
Folder: Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color. Box board: 8.5 pH, with a 2% alkaline buffer, alpha-cellulose fiber pulp. Lignin free.


CORRUGATE PORTFOLIO
Application: Light weight corrugate cover with finished turned in edges, cloth spine and inner folder.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials.
Materials used:
Board: Acid free corrugate, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Spine: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).
Folder: Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color.



PHASE WRAPPER
Application: Inexpensive protection for long-term storage of limited use materials or fragile items awaiting treatment
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials.
Materials used:
Board: Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc), 3M #415 archival A40 double side acrylic coated tape with polyester backing.


HINGED PHASE BOX
Application: A sturdy and inexpensive enclosure made from stiff, abrasion-resistant and lightfast board hinged with cloth joints to protect fragile books from light, dust and shelf wear.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials. Suitable for slender materials and oversize materials
Materials used:
Board: Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).
Closure: Brass rivets / polyethylene washers / linen ties.


CREASED PHASE BOX
Application: A sturdy and inexpensive enclosure made from stiff, abrasion-resistant and lightfast board to protect fragile books from light, dust and shelf wear.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials. Not suitable for materials less than 3/4” deep or oversize materials.
Materials used:
Board: Alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free. pH over 8.5 with alkaline sizing and 3% alkaline reserve. Lightfast, non-bleeding tan color.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).
Closure: Brass rivets / polyethylene washers / linen ties.


POST BINDING
Application: Unobtrusive binding posts easily removed to retrieve individual pages or to insert additional pages. Versatile format for new albums, guest books and scrapbooks as well as preservation applications.
Materials used:
Board: Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.
Lining: Permanent quality fabric or paper.
Adhesive: Polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAc).
Accessories: Aluminum screw posts.
Page sleeves: polyester film


PRINT STORAGE BOX
Application: Double tray, four wall box with lift made from board and cloth. Offers maximum protection from abrasion, handling, and environmental conditions.
Special considerations: Not intended for circulating materials. Materials listed below are considered suitable for archival storage. Substitutions can be made for decorative or functional preferences.

Board: Acid free, 2% calcium carbonate reserve, low lignin or lignin free.
Cloth: E-Grade poly-cotton buckram, aqueous acrylic coating, 8.5 pH, colored with non- bleeding dyes.

Book Supports

Cushioned support for safe reading or exhibit of valuable, fragile or tightly bound books.

Fabricated from permanent quality materials suitable for reading room use or as exhibit supports. Base and bolsters are made from 100% alpha-cellulose pulp, lignin free board, padded with polyester batting and covered with 100% cotton velveteen. Various sizes of bolsters and bases allow for soft, safe, customized support to adapt to a wide range of book sizes and exhibit cases. Components can be purchased individually or in sets, custom made to any size.


Book Snakes

Gorgeous and soft serpents gently hold books open and free hands. Fabricated from plush lycra filled with industrial screened quartz. For reading room use - not suitable for exhibit purposes.
